What a difference five weeks makes!
Since beginning her Beautiful You makeover five weeks ago, Barbara’s appearance has already changed dramatically. Her skin is looking fresher and more polished. Her grey hair now has lovely caramel tones. She’s started working out with her personal trainer.
On top of all this, Barbara has lost 20 POUNDS in the past five weeks, with the help of Jaedean Mitchell, owner of Simple Solution Weight Loss. There are two Simple Solution locations in Saskatoon: 1011 – 8th Street East (just off Clarence Ave.) and 215 Stonebridge Boulevard.
“I didn’t think it would ever be possible to lose that amount of weight in just five weeks,” says our Beautiful You candidate Barbara Reidy. “Now I’m starting to notice how my body is changing. Today, I’m wearing jeans for the first time in years!”
Simple Solution offers a medically-developed weight loss protocol with over a decade of success. The four-step protein-based program is designed to help individuals achieve their weight loss goals and learn how to keep the weight off through balanced eating habits and sustainable lifestyle choices.
Simple Solution Weight Loss owner Jaedean Mitchell has been involved in the health industry for over 25 years as a practitioner of massage, reflexology, reiki and bodytalk therapies. She has also completed numerous courses in herbal medicine and nutrition.
With the goal of losing 50 pounds, Barbara scheduled her first appointment at Simple Solution Weight Loss.
“The first thing we did was discuss Barbara’s lifestyle. With five kids she’s very busy, but she’s also very organized,” says Jaedean. “I also did a health profile to make sure there were no medical issues requiring further investigation by a doctor. Barbara’s main concern is to get the excess weight off so she has more energy and starts to feel good about herself again.
“The Ideal Protein program will be phenomenal for Barbara because it works so well. She’ll get her weight off quickly and efficiently, and get her energy back. The most dramatic changes will be in the first four or five months; then it’s tightening and toning after that,” says Jaedean.
The next step was to get Barbara started on her nutrition plan. Every day, Barbara enjoys a breakfast and lunch featuring Ideal Protein products, and prepares her own supper.
For breakfast and lunch, Barbara selects from a variety of Ideal Protein products. Breakfast options include omelets, cereals, pancakes and protein-enhanced drinks; lunch choices range from flavourful soups to chili and pasta.
For supper, Barbara enjoys an 8-ounce portion of meat, with two cups of veggies and a side salad.
Barbara says she’s impressed by the flavour, variety and convenience of the food packets. “There are lots of recipes on the website for different ways to use them,” she adds.
The program even includes snacks and desserts, such as puddings, brownies, bars and chips. “We have such a large variety of food options. Barbara can choose what she likes and what fits in best with her lifestyle,” says Jaedean.
Barbara loves the simplicity of the program. “On previous diets, I was always so disorganized. I’d start out great, but then it would all fall apart because I hadn’t planned my meals,” says Barbara.
“Because Simple Solution provides me with breakfast and lunch, all I have to think about is dinner. I only have to decide which protein to eat, and which two cups of vegetables. The day is organized for me.”
Carb-laden diets are one of the most common reasons for weight gain, says Jaedean. “Most people are getting insufficient protein in their diets. They’re filling up primarily on carbohydrates, which the body turns to fat.”
The Ideal Protein program reduces carbs, salt and sugar. “When you’re not eating a lot of carbohydrates for energy, your body starts using fat as energy. The protein protects your lean mass,” says Jaedean.
Barbara checks in at Simple Solution weekly to weigh in and discuss her progress. “We have a Body Composition Analyzer (BCA) which shows how much her body fat percentage has come down each week, what her hydration level is, and whether she’s losing lean mass or fat mass. Barbara can access that on our website and follow her progress,” says Jaedean.
Barbara keeps a weekly journal to record her food intake. The food diary helps Barbara stay accountable and assists Jaedean in identifying eating patterns that could be hampering weight loss. A review of one client’s journal helped Jaedean pinpoint too many red peppers, a high glycemic vegetable, as the reason for a plateau in weight loss.
Simple Solution will take Barbara through a four-phase program. “The first two phases are the weight loss. The third phase is ‘Stabilization’, where we gradually add the carbs back in, followed by the Maintenance phase,” says Jadean.
“If Barbara experiences weight loss at our typical rate, she’ll have lost her desired 50 pounds within five months. She’s already lost 20 pounds and it’s only five weeks in!”
